into cologne

when i crossed the hohenzollern bridge it occurred to me how germany is such a strange juxtaposition of gothic and contemporary architecture. the museum ludwig, dedicated to modern art (they were showing lichenstein) is only a few feet from the cologne cathedral, quite possibly the most beautiful and ornate landmark i have ever seen.

it rained on and off my entire stay in cologne; everyone was riding their bicycles with ponchos on and umbrellas open. and i had a piece of the most wonderful chocolate cake i've ever had.
